FIT x 50 – wk 6

2014-08-12 11.55.12Ahhhhhh —Youth.

I get a kick out of the officers willingness to show me how far I’ve yet to go for reaching my fitness goals. Although, surrounding yourself with positive, health focused peers provides the motivation and accountability elements that lead to a sustained life change.

I’ve been athletic my entire life, but rarely combined exercise and diet. I’m trying, but not so much of late. Good intentions with a poor roadmap will still lead you down a dead-end.

Still killing the crossfit though. Ever heard of Filthy Fifty?? Me neither – until this week. I thought it was a senior citizens’ burlesques show. It was 10 exercises with 50 reps for each. I’m no math major, but that’s around 498 to 502 reps total.

You know the beauty of doing it? The point when I hunched before that 24 inch tall metal box. The narrow top was where both feet would land – 50 TIMES. It got smaller as I got weaker. Then my “I can’t” turned into “I Can.” So I did, and then kept going on with the rest of the workout.

This isn’t a promo for Xfit, it’s a constant reminder that if you show up, shut up and never give up – you not only can, but YOU WILL.

Giving myself a bit of a mini vacation last weekend, I wasn’t as dork-ball paranoid about hanging by a pool. I actually had a great time with family and friends

2014-08-23 19.57.57FYI – I’m the guy on the left.

Goals:

1. Maintain sensible diet {Check}

2. Exercise at least 4 times next week {Check++}

3. Buy new scale but not obsess over readings. {Scale? Don’t bother with it}

4. Encourage you to join me and share experience and commitments. {Share what was your favorite exercise this week}

5. Be positive about the quest for fitness. {Check – easy to be positive about feeling loose, limber and healthy}

6. Don’t skin shins during box jumps (Okay, so I threw in a WOD term) {Rocked box jumps, not tooooo old to do it}

Big News:

What does the Warrior Dash, a NYT Best Selling Author, Cops-n-Kilts, and kicking cancer in the can have to do with each other?

Answer – Super Author Liliana Hart is sponsoring a team fundraiser for the October 11th Warrior Dash. She will post a link in September for donations. Each of us on the team have been affected by cancer in one way or another.

In addition to pink kilts worn by the cops, and the “outfits” worn by the readers and writers of our team, we’ll record the cruelty with GoPro cameras. The links will be posted after 4 laughter.

  1. I love reading your posts. They motivate me to get my fluffy bury in gear. A bit at a time is better than nothing. Thanks Scott!

  2. Haha! He loves his bicep! 🙂
    It sounds like a social workout has an advantage; as a solo exerciser, no one notices or speaks up if I’m being lazy and not pushing myself, and I’m not competing with anyone. That can make it very hard to make any progress. Plateaus are easy to hold and hard to push past.
    So far I’ve met my goals of eating sensibly and exercising at least every other day, but haven’t made much *progress* to harder workouts.

      • Thank you! Funny thing; the diet part is pretty easy for me, because the only time I eat food that I didn’t cook myself is if I’m out of town; that’s only a few times a year. Then again, I don’t have a Pepper’s Pizza…
