Jesus: Team Maker – Team Breaker

Jesus: Team Maker – Team Breaker

Years ago, I was assigned as the commander of a brand new, police task force. After 12 years in the mix of it, my boss offered a big rank promotion.

I replied, “This is my baby. I can’t leave them.”

Part of being a good team maker, is also knowing when to make your break from the team. We get comfortable, and the members grow complacent resting on your image, efforts and activity.

While that may feed our ego, it prevents your team from stretching their legs by moving into uncomfortable positions of leadership and mentoring for themselves and other new team members.

“You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.”

~ John 14:28

Jesus knew this of course, and although He had His inner circle of 3, His team of 12, and His workforce of 70, Jesus knew when it was time to make a break.

Did it disrupt them team? Sure it did, but what it did, was allow for a fresh new leadership style in the Holy Spirit, and forced the followers of the system into positions of leaders in the faith.

We need to examine where we are with the team, and maybe it’s time to step up and step out. Oh, and btw, my boss saw past my narrowly defined loyalty and gave me the rank promotion despite my immature misguided protest!!!

Much Love/Respect,

Scott Silverii
