The Chuckle

I first posted this last year. It’s a favorite Mardi Gras memory so I’d like to share again. As we go deep into the carnival season, I ask that you be careful and mindful of others. Have a fantastic season.

I was up at 0430hrs today as my mind usually begins before my body. Our Mardi Gras season begins Sunday and runs each weekend till Fat Tuesday.

No, I’m not thinking about costumes or beads or float designs. I’m focusing on the same thing as the last 23 years; security.

This morning is different though. While reviewing plans for escorts of kings and queens, crowd controls, checking that revelers are harnessed into their multistory floats, something happened.

My 6 year old son, laying next to me sound asleep but restless let out a very soft but distinct chuckle.

Smiling, I watched him for a while to make sure he was comfortable and still sleeping. He was both.

And for those moments I had not a concern about this year’s Mardi Gras season. The ops plans are prepared, the officers are experienced and my little boy is in the midst of some sweet, funny dream.

Have an awesomely lived life.
