Stewarding God’s Kingdom Plan of Multiplication Well. Biblical Faithfulness Equals Relational Growth
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
Luke 14:27-33 (NASB)
Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down, and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who are watching it will begin to ridicule him, saying, ‘This person began to build, and was not able to finish!’
Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to face the one coming against him with twenty thousand? Otherwise, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and requests terms of peace. So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.
Luke 14:27-33 (NASB)
NOTE: Do you believe God created everything? Bible Not Salad Bar
– Trust that in giving up all your possessions is simply returning to God what He first gave you.
– Was your first thought money? Unhealthy heart attachment. Spouse, kids, life
– He lent them to you. He’ll trust you with more.
Someone who is trustworthy in a small matter is also trustworthy in large ones, and someone who is dishonest in a small matter is also dishonest in large ones.
Luke 16:10 (Complete Jewish Bible)
NOTE: Are you stewarding God’s Kingdom Growth Plan well?
Ask yourself:
– Am I making disciples? (Matthew 28:19)
– Am I immersing people in all things of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? (Matthew 28:19)
– Am I teaching others to follow all that Jesus commanded? (Matthew 28:20)
– Am I faithful in multiplying God’s kingdom?
NOTE: Faithful stewardship means multiplication.
– Kingdom is building is never about DECREASE -No poverty mentality.
From the parable of the five talents:
Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Matthew 25:19-21
NOTE: Growing the Kingdom comes at a COST.
– Transformational experience of John 21
– Sets Jesus Culture Growth Plan in place.
– Based on COST – Calling—Obscurity—Stabilization—Transformation
Free Breakfast on a Galilean Beach Has a COST.
STEP 1 of Stewarding Well
CALLING
– Calling like the wedding versus the marriage. Starter pistol, not destination.
– Encountering God requires Obedience to the call.
NOTE: Jesus was clear in His calling of the disciples to meet Him at the mountain in Galilee.
John 21 –
1 After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias (Galilee), and he revealed himself in this way.
NOTE: Disciples not at mountain – Jesus met them in their sin of disobedience.
NOTE: Back to Egypt – Returned to their old life.
– Unsure what to STEWARD? –NOT called to bury your talents – Matthew 25
– Faith without works is dead.
Faith is the ROOT – Works is the FRUIT
So too, faith, if it does not have works is by itself dead
James 2:17 (Amplified Bible)
STEP 2 of Stewarding Well
OBSCURITY
– Even in seasons of obscurity (dryness), steward God’s Calling well.
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
Luke 24:1-3 (NASB)
– Stones in your path – feeling lost and wilderness?
– Mary Magdalen Sought Jesus – Saw Stone
– Still she brought something to what she thought was DEAD.
– She didn’t know BEHIND stone was working and ALIVE.
Back to John 21 –
2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.”
NOTE: Shifted paradigm from Follow Me – Turned to self-reliant, “We will go with you.” – Peter wasn’t their leader, yet good men go astray without headship of Jesus.
….They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
NOTE: Reference back to first fishing encounter of Luke 5 – Keeping committing same sins
– Apart from Jesus, efforts are empty.
– What boats are you returning to?
– Were you called to head to the mountain, but settled for the beach?
– Are you ready to return to Jesus?
4 Just as day was breaking….
NOTE: Stewardship requires separation from dark priorities of world. Light of Christ.
– Genesis 1:4 –God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
– Jesus revealed Himself light of day. Not while they toiled in sin at night.
….Jesus stood on the shore….
NOTE: Jesus interacts with them differently – no walking to them across water. – Time for Mature decisions to follow Christ
– Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
…. yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
NOTE: Third time Jesus had manifested himself to His closest disciples (John 21:14)
– When we take eyes off Jesus, we don’t see Jesus.
– What you Focus on, you Magnify.
STEP 3 of Stewarding Well
STABILIZATION
Become stable when you surrender who you thought you were and become who God called you to be.
5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.
NOTE: I gotta question these guys skill at fishing. They never seem to catch anything and when they do, they freak out. If someone you didn’t know showed up at your work and started giving instructions, would you do it?
7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” ….
NOTE: Some people see, hear, and come to Christ sooner than others. Be patient and persistent in your pursuit and with others.
…. When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.
NOTE: Peter didn’t have to “SEE” Jesus – He simply heard the Word. There is power in speaking the Word.
NOTE: Heavy outer garment as covering for sin of rejection.
8 The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.
NOTE: Other disciples return to Jesus was more measured and rational. They also cared for the catch of fish – new converts. Good Stewards
9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread.
NOTE: Charcoal used three times in Bible –
1. John 18:18 – Peter stood at charcoal fire warming himself when he denied Jesus.
2. John 21:9 – Peter stood around charcoal fire as Jesus restored him back to ministry (John 21:15-17 – Do You Love Me?)
3. Isaiah 6:5-8 – Seraphim touched Isaiah’s unclean lips with charcoal to restore and send him.
Refer to Isaiah 6:5-8:
5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
NOTE: God will restore you and if you are willing, He will qualify you into ministry.
9 … with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.”
NOTE: Jesus already had fish on His fire. His fish are those who already followed Him?
– He called disciples to bring the fish they’d just caught. Those are the converts to come into the kingdom.
– Jesus MULTIPLIES the kingdom by placing both “catches” His and theirs on His fire (Holy Spirit) and bread (Bread of Life)
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
John 6:51
STEP 4 of Stewarding Well
TRANSFORMATION
Healthy things Grow and Growing things Change
11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.
NOTE: Prophesying of Peter catching fish by returning to the boat. This time, unlike LUKE 5, the nets did not tear.
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
NOTE: Return to Jesus, feast on His Word, and Know exactly who God is.
NOTE: Think you’ve messed up too bad? God loves you and is a God of second chances.
Repent – Confess Sins – Ask Forgiveness – Be Restored

Restoration and Sending to STEWARD
John 21:15-17 (NASB)
Now when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Tend My lambs.”
He said to him again, a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?”
Peter was hurt because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?”
And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”
Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.
Will you steward God’s kingdom well?
