ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a person sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. Let’s not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let’s do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

1. JESUS SET THE PROCESS – (Jesus Culture)

DISCIPLESHIP Sets the Process Into Practical Application

Every group has unique culture.

Policing culture – Rookie to FTO

Jesus has culture – WHO is your FTO

FOLLOW ME

– What does Following look like?

And He said to them, “Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], 

and I will make you fishers of men.”

Matthew 4:19 (Amplified Bible)

What is a Disciple?

Webster defines – “a pupil or follower of any teacher or school.”

NOTE: ANY?– Who are you Following? We ALL Follow someone or something

Following Jesus looks like:

1. Walking with Jesus.

He said to them, “Come and see.”

John 1:39 (Complete Jewish Bible)

Following Jesus looks like 2. Receiving Salvation.

 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely, they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spiritgives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘Youmust be born again.’

John 3:3-7 (NIV)

Following Jesus looks like 3. Endure Persecution.

From The Sermon On The Mount:

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

NOTE: IF you don’t bump into the devil, then you’re both going in the same direction

2. JESUS SHARED THE Kingdom Growth PLAN

– Jesus commissioned disciples.

The Great Commission

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20 (NASB)

Commission means (1) being assigned a responsibility and (2) a person authorized to act on someone else’s behalf to perform a specific responsibility.

EX:

1. Artist is commissioned to paint a picture

2. My officers were commissioned (oath) to act on my behalf as Chief of Police

NOTE: A Christ Follower called for both

– Have are called to a specific responsibility in multiplying

– Have God’s authority to grow His kingdom by making disciples.

NOTE: Supernatural Job Evaluation – Measurable – Are You Faithful?

Faithful Option 1. Multiply five talents into ten – Matthew 25:21 – … ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!…

Faithful Option 2. Multiply two talents into four – Matthew 25:23 – … ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! …

Faithful Option 3. Buried one talent and lied about his master’s character

– Matthew 25:26 – … “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant!

Matthew 25:28 & 30 – … “‘So take the bag of gold from him …. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

3. JESUS SENT THE POWER

– This is what makes you NOT ONLY HUMAN

– About to turn on the power to set the process in motion.

Book of Acts Details the Power Process of HOLY SPIRIT:

Power Process Step 1. Character Refining – (Acts 1:4) Jesus commanded them not to leave Jerusalem and wait for what the Father had promised.

NOTE: Waiting on God is not being passive or complacent.

NOTE: – Patience creates obedience and equals character – Your Character MUST be greater than your Calling or You’ll Crumble.

Power Process Step 2. Clarifying the Purpose –(Acts 1:5) John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

NOTE – Remaining teachable leads to greater revelation.

NOTE: EXPLAIN DIFF

– Jesus hadn’t ascended to send down the Holy Spirit during John’s ministry.

– John’s ministry was to announce coming of Christ & preach repentance of sin.

– John used water baptism as public profession of repentance and belief in God.

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins [that is, requiring a change of one’s old way of thinking, turning away from sin and seeking God and His righteousness].

Mark 1:4 (Amplified Bible)

Power Process Step 3. Creating Expectations – (Acts 1:8) “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”

NOTE: Legal Differences Will v. Shall

Will – person does something if they desire to carry it out – OPTIONAL

Shall – obligation is imposed to fulfill duty of covenant

NOTE: If you have the WILL to receive Christ and thus Holy Spirit from the Father, then you SHALL witness to the ends of the earth.

Power Process Step 4. Cementing Unity, Integrity, and Equality –

(Acts 1:14) All these were continually devoting themselves with one mind (also: purpose) to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. 

NOTE: Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. First time without Jesus present over His 40 days – Devoted 100% ALL IN – Not just an occasional Sunday.

NOTE: Jesus corrected corrupted views of women – EQUAL in Body of Christ. Press into kingdom unity despite world’s culture.

NOTE: When God gives you a word – cling to it with continual prayer – don’t ignore it in hopes of another word.

Power Process Step 5. Confidence Building: (Acts 1:15& 16) At this time Peter stood up among the brothers and sisters (a group of about 120 people was there together), and said, ^“Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. 

NOTE: Peter accepts mantle of leadership. No more bumbling emotions fear.

NOTE: God’s Growth Team is READY to RECEIVE – Scripture had to be fulfilled – Peter Does What Jesus Always Did – LEAN ON GOD’s WORD

Power Process Step 6. Come Holy Spirit Come – Same Then – Same Now!!

Acts 2:

(Acts 2:1) When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 

NOTE: The 120 – STAY IN THE ROOM – Appeared to 500 (1 Corinthians 15:6) – 380?

Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:23-25 (NASB)

(Acts 2:2-4) And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, distributing themselves, and a tongue rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with different tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.

NOTE:  BIRTH OF GOD’S CHURCH – THE Body of Christ

NOTE: – Gift of tongues unifies body and cancels the curse of Babel.

– Instead of humanity sinning by building up to heaven, God redeemed humanity by bringing heaven down.

NOTE: You Have the POWER – Now what will you do with it?

Therefore, let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified. “Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what are we to do?”  Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

ACTS 2:36-38

Did they FOLLOW the PLAN of Matthew 28:18-20

1. Make disciples of all the nations? WILL YOU?

2. Baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit? WILL YOU?

3. Teach them to follow all that Jesus commanded? WILL YOU?

4. Were they FAITHFUL in MULTIPLICATION? WILL YOU?

ACTS 2:41 – So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
